Ron said, ‘I know who it could’ve been - Lupin.’
‘What?’ said Harry, now starting to laugh himself. ‘Lupin? Listen, if he had this much gold, he’d be able to buy himself some new robes.’
‘Yeah, but he likes you.’ said Ron.
Prisoner of Azkaban
This quote really hurts me cause I think Lupin would’ve loved to buy Harry a new broom after the Womping Willow incident. He would’ve loved to give something so precious to his best friend’s son. But he does not have enough money to even buy decent robes.
And Harry laughs. He laughs at the absurdity of the thought because he has no idea how close Lupin was to his parents. And Lupin can’t even tell him or take care of him or give him a new broom.
Never mind that Ron’s not the most intelligent person in the world. Ron had some inkling, before Harry ever did, of how much Harry meant to Lupin. i can picture Ron in the back of DADA, noticing that whenever Harry’s not looking, Lupin is sneaking furtive, affectionate little looks in Harry’s direction.
